SINGING
The
thrust of the course at Millennium Performing Arts is to West End musicals
and neo-classical/modern contemporary companies. The training is designed
to give an artist all the varied disciplines required by twenty-first
century theatre. Fusion of techniques is common place today and choreographers
are crossing boundaries that were once unimaginable, examples: Mathew
Bourne choreographing My Fair Lady and Raphael Bonachela choreographing
the Kylie Minogue Tour.
A successful performer must be able to cross these boundaries, too.
Testaments to the power of our training are the following examples:
Lisa
O’Hare - Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins (West End)
Kimball Wong - Soloist, Austrailian Dance Theatre
Jarkko Lehmus and Daniel Davidson - Scottish Ballet
All
of these MPA graduates followed the identical course.
The
strands of the training are particularly brought together in musical
theatre. Singing, dancing and acting are the essential elements. Students
are exposed to the best of the West End not only through their regular
teachers but through weekly workshops from the best performers in the
profession today.
Musical
Theatre Repertoire enables students to perform sections of well known
musicals thus gaining valuable experience in the virtual reality of
West End performing.
Modern
Contemporary Dance and Jazz Repertoire give students the opportunity
to use learned skills in an interpretive manner. It teaches observation
and accuracy and allows dancers to explore their own creativity.
Pure
singing and pure acting workshops are scheduled for equal measure.
